I love me a nude lip. A smoky eye paired with a nude lip is pretty much my everyday look. I think nude lips look clean and elegant.
These are the lipsticks I’m using at the moment; obviously there is an enormous choice out there, and I’m constantly on the lookout for new nudes to try. So come on: let’s get
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour Collection Limited Edition in Indiscretion is a funny one; not funny haha (as you can tell from my rather stern looking photo above), more a, I can’t work out whether I like it or not, funny.
Now I know this post is called my favourite nude lipsticks, however the one I lurrve from Laura Mercier, which I wanted to include, is NO. LONGER. MADE. And I’m gutted. Not to the point of tears, it is only a lipstick after all; but, be that as it may, there is sadness in my heart… It was an absolute winner in terms of texture and colour; and now it’s gone; and I have to move on.
I bought this alternative on-line, hoping it would be similar, and although the colour is close, the texture couldn’t be more different. Where my favourite, discontinued lipstick, was buttery and soft and smooth, this is dry and chalky and uncomfortable to wear. I do like the colour, very much; it’s a pale, slightly peachy, nude, but unless your lips are in perfect condition – which mine are not – it catches on any dry bits and accentuates them. Then, as it wears off during the day, bits of colour cling to any chappedness (is that a word?) and looks gross. So colour – yes; texture- no. I can see what Laura Mercier is trying to do – and matte lipsticks can look great – but for me, this is just tooooo matte.
Moving on to Mac’s contribution, this shade, called Cybernaut, is a neutral, slightly blueish pink, which errs on the pale side without making you look too washed out. It’s moisturising and soft, and according to Mac, features a 77-Mineral Moist Complex. I don’t if that means it’s got 77 minerals in it, (are there 77 minerals?), or what. Anyway, it’s comfortable, but wears off fairly quickly. I personally experience that with all lipsticks though. I think it’s because I’m constantly drinking and eating… Water and lettuce only, obvs.
This Clinique nude has a bit more pigment than the rest and is probably the pinkest of the bunch. It’s demi-matte and contains a primer; which does what exactly, I’ve no idea. It claims to keep the colour true for longer and the lips moisturised for eight hours straight and while I dispute that, it is a lovely lipstick to wear.
Here I’ve gone a bit sixties with this very pale, verging on white, nude.
I like this colour with a smoky eye, I think it looks striking. It can make teeth look a little yellow, so I just don’t smile when I wear it…
It’s maybe not an everyday shade and requires some maintenance, but Maybelline have come up with a fab formula for a great price.
My favourite, favourite, favourite is this nude by Nars. It’s just the easiest, most comfortable lipstick to wear and this shade, Cruising, is my perfect nude. It’s the, my lips but better, nude. I love it and will never be without it. And that’s all I have to say about that.
Finally, another offering from Maybelline, this is the most brown nude of the bunch.
Sometimes this colour can look a little muddy and draining, however, I think this shade is sheer enough and buttery enough to look more 90’s Supermodel nude, than 90 year old corpse nude.
So these are my favourite nudes a la momente; what are yours?
